"That's So Gay!": Reducing Homophobia in the Early Grades

School communities struggle when hearing students say, "That's so gay" or "You're a fag" at young ages. Many schools are grappling with how to best support gay, lesbian and bisexual students, students who have families with gay or lesbian parents and gay or lesbian staff. Teachers need guidance about how to address behaviors and questions from their students have their own beliefs and values about sexual orientation. Finding ways to manage all of those factors in order to create a respectful environment for all students is critical. This workshop will provide practical tips and tools for school staff and administrators to create welcoming communities for all students.
