Basic Counseling for Non-Professional Counselors
Nonclinically trained staff are frequently called upon to offer some form of informal “counseling” to their students or clients. They are often asked to do this with little or no training or practice with the skills they need to provide good basic counseling. This workshop will identify the basic counseling skills needed by most nonprofessionally trained counselors and will give participants the opportunity to practice and refine their use of these skills. It will be useful for newer, less experienced staff as well as seasoned staff who want a solid review of basic counseling skills and the opportunity to practice those skills in a safe, nonpressured context. This workshop will be highly practical and highly interactive. It will include brief presentations, large group brainstorms, small group discussions and paired activities/exercises.
I just want to thank you and Answer for the opportunity to attend the "Basic Counseling for Non-Professional Counselors" workshop yesterday. The trainer presented a very informative, helpful, interesting, and useful workshop. I implemented use of the skills with my first client this morning. I look forward to attending more workshops in the future.
